A new option of removable pick and place caps has been announced by Mill-Max manufacturing corp. The line is called the 806 series and features the standard Mill-Max pins but with a new spring loaded removable cap to keep pins centered and protected. The cap offers an easy target for automated vacuum pick-ups when they are removed after the soldering process.
Pins and small terminals are not the easiest target for automated vacuum systems. By adding a low cost and easily removable pin cover, Mill-Max improved the quality and consistence of the pin solders on their assemblies. The caps cover the spring loaded pins and are removed robotically after the initial assembly process. The caps slip over the pin without damaging the plunger and grip with four projections.
The 806 series has four through hole style spring pins and nine surface mount options. All parts are packaged to EIA standards on 13” reels. The caps are made of high quality nylon that are suitable for the midrange temperatures of most automated soldering. Pins are machined with a low tolerance for error. Gold plating ensures the pins conductivity and resistance to corrosion. Pins are rated for an average of 2A of current with the maximum at 3A.
Mill-Max spring loaded pins are build on machines that can both cut and mill to create complex geometry surfaces. Profiles can be a multitude of shapes, not limited to typical pin styles. Pins can also be from various different metals and alloys such as brass, copper, and even phosphor bronze. Mill-Max only used the highest quality conductive metals to ensure the best current flow and low resistance. High quality machined pins should be chosen by those looking for consistency and short lead time. Avoid die cast pins if tolerance is a top concern.

New slim wire connectors by TE Connectivity allow users to make fast and easy wire to wire or wire to board connections. The poke-in connectors accept wire gauges 18-22 AWG, with the 18 gauge wire rated up to 10A, and the 20/22 gauge wire rated up to 6A. Naked contacts allow a smaller footprint and cost savings over poke in connectors.
Poke in connectors are typically housed so they take up more space compared to TE slim wire connectors. Operating temperatures are rated from -40 to 105 degrees celcius, giving users an extensive line of application. Typically the connectors are used in telecommunication, building automation and security systems; But TE slim wire connectors are versatile and cheap, so even a hobbyist can use them in their printed circuit board projects.
Poke connectors provide maximum mechanical stability and wire retention due to their four points of contact in wire retention. Suitable for a variety of conditions these connectors allow users maximum flexibility while reducing cost. They also have the advantage of effectively eliminating the need for two piece wire connections with multiple solder points. There is no need for a secondary crimp assembly, just a single robust housing for one or more wires to make contact. Wires in all metal poke in housings are solderless and easy to replace and remove.
Depending on the type of poke connector removal may be as simple as twisting out the wire, unscrewing, or using an extraction tool. One thing poke connectors are not recommended for are products that experience vigorous movement or vibrations. Due to the nature of slim wire connectors, overtime they risk falling out because of the solderless connection. In these types of cases snap or solder connectors would be preferred.
On February 9 2017, there was an article that was posted by Bearing.com which talks about how SKF South Africa is working to help an OEM customer reduce and cut down their lead times. The contact surface is wear resistant. Imperceptible lubricant pockets enable the lubricant to reside on the sleeve and thereby prevent dry running of the sealing lip that otherwise can create excessive wear.”

Schaeffler is growing its line of rolling bearings by introducing Generation C to the existing line of FAG bearings. FAG bearings are most commonly used in electric motors, electric power tools, pumps, fans, household appliances, and two wheel vehicles. The line will expand with product improvement, new production lines, and increased logistic capabilities.
Two new concepts to the FAG ball bearings have been introduced. The first being a new Z-type seal to reduce the loss of grease by 20% and reduce contamination by 30%. The second is an optional ELS lip seal that is ideal in situations where the ball bearing receives an axial load (motorcycle wheel bearings) to reduce friction and increase robustness. All together, improvements have increased durability, decreased friction, and increased value for ball bearing customers. Factories are prepared to implement the design features as they also increase production capabilities.
Over the next few months Schaeffler will expand its production lines by over 100%, doubling the output from then newest factory in Yinchuan China. The highly autonomous factory will be strictly adhering to ISO quality standards with a dedicated quality control team and routine inspection. The state of the art plant has multiple wash stations throughout the production line to ensure contamination free ball bearings. Quality is a top priority of Schaeffler during this expansion of the FAG ball bearing line. Factories in Portugal and India will also be ramping up production, making an optimized supply chain another top priority of Schaffler’s.
Schaeffler will be setting up a new central logistics distribution center in Germany to join the existing locations in Sweden and Southern Italy. The goal is to provide customers in Western and Eastern Europe prompt and reliable delivery.
